The Most Holy Crucifix, patron of the land of the Sanctuary of the Light
📅 Every year, on 13 August
Roccapalumba celebrates the Most Holy Crucifix on 13 August.
In a town of two thousand six hundred people there is an astronomical observatory with a planetarium, and in the primary school a centre for teaching children the sky: around here they call Roccapalumba the town of the stars.
The name is in the arms: a rock with two peaks, eight golden houses and three blue doves in flight. The town was born around 1640 on the fief of Palumba, at the foot of the dolomitic massif above it, and lives on prickly pears, which have their own sagra here. Among these houses Simonetta Agnello Hornby set La Mennulara. There are 2,634 residents.
