The patroness of San Giuseppe Jato is Mary Most Holy of Providence, celebrated from 13 to 16 August. The sanctuary dedicated to her is the destination of a pilgrimage of the faithful every year; the town's mother church, instead, is the one dedicated to the Most Holy Redeemer and Saint Nicholas of Bari.
On Monte Jato, a short distance from the town, stands an ancient hermitage dedicated to Saints Cosmas and Damian, recently the subject of conservation restoration: according to tradition it was founded by Basilian monks. The Jato river, which collects the waters of the Cannavera spring, the Rizzolo spring and the Chiusa spring, is interrupted at the foot of the mountain by the artificial Poma lake, before flowing out near Castellammare del Golfo.
