Approaching Ventimiglia di Sicilia, travelers encounter a landscape defined by the hills of the Pizzo Cane, Pizzo Trigna and Grotta Mazzamuto Nature Reserve. Founded in the 1620s by Don Girolamo del Carretto, who named it in honor of his wife Beatrice Ventimiglia, the town of 2,080 residents is locally known by its Sicilian name, Calamigna.
Official records added "di Sicilia" in 1863 to avoid confusion with the town of Ventimiglia in Liguria. Beyond its natural boundary, the municipality features the Ezio Brancato Astronomical Observatory, established in 2001 by ORSA. The town also holds historical ties to New York City, where early 20th-century emigrants established a dedicated burial plot at Calvary Cemetery in Queens.
