The patron saint of Comiso is Saint Blaise, celebrated on 3 February. Work on the church dedicated to him began in 1500 on the ruins of the very ancient Basilian church of Abraxia, dating from the 3rd-4th centuries, itself incorporated into the Romanesque church of San Biagio il Vecchio (the Old): the building, with three naves and a central dome, was completely destroyed by the 1693 earthquake.
The town also holds the mother church of Santa Maria delle Stelle, built in the 15th century over a pre-existing temple in Chiaramonte style dedicated to Santa Maria del Mulino, and the castle of the Naselli d'Aragona, which in the Renaissance housed the town's magistrates' seat. From 1608 numerous Comiso families emigrated to the nearby town of Vittoria, newly founded by Vittoria Colonna de Cabrera.
