Comiso

Province: Ragusa · Region: Sicily · Population: 29,184 · Postal code: 97013

Gesualdo Bufalino lived in Comiso all his life, teaching quietly until, at sixty-one, "The Plague Sower" revealed him among the great Italian writers of the twentieth century: the Foundation keeping his library and papers is today the town's intellectual heart. Around it, the Hyblaean Baroque of churches and squares and the pale "Comiso stone" from quarries that built half the province.

The Iblei airport, named after Pio La Torre, opened this south-eastern Sicily to direct flights: Ragusa Ibla, Modica and Scicli are half an hour away. Comiso is the convenient gateway to the Val di Noto — with a writer's library as its soul.
