The necropolis of contrada Bellamagna lies about 2.5 kilometres north-west of Pozzallo, though it falls within the territory of Modica. It belongs to the Castelluccio culture, widespread in Sicily in the early Bronze Age between 2200 and 1450 BC: 87 artificial rock-cut chamber tombs have been identified here, mostly circular in plan, some with internal niches, and a dozen left unfinished.
The site was used as a burial ground again in late antiquity, as shown by nine small hypogea and around thirty pit tombs. It is one of those quiet testimonies to how ancient human presence is in the Hyblaean Hills.
