The modern layout of Rosolini owes its existence to the Moncada family, who formally established the current town in 1713. However, human presence here stretches back much further, evolving from late Imperial Roman and Byzantine settlements into a 15th-century fiefdom controlled by the Platamones.
With 21,526 residents, the municipality sits 40 kilometers southwest of Syracuse. It occupies a practical crossroads in southeastern Sicily, sharing direct borders with the neighboring towns of Noto, Modica, Ragusa, and Ispica.
