The patron of Castelvetrano is Saint John the Baptist and his day falls on 24 June.
The celebration the town is known for, however, belongs to Easter: on Easter morning, without a break since 1660, the square in front of the cathedral stages the meeting of the risen Christ with the Virgin still in mourning, announced three times by an Angel.
