Trodena nel parco naturale

Province: South Tyrol · Region: Trentino-South Tyrol · Population: 1,021 · Postal code: 39040

The name comes from trodo, the path: the oldest ways between the val di Fiemme and the Bassa Atesina passed through here, and the village appears as Trodene as early as 1111. Although the Fiemme valley is on the other side of the mountain, Trodena belongs to the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme, and in 1362 the documents call it Trudena in Valle Flemis.

Since 2008 the comune has been called Trodena nel parco naturale, after the Monte Corno park. Between 1917 and 1963 it had two railway stations, at Fontanefredde and at San Lugano, on the Ora-Predazzo line. In the visitor centre there is a mill of 1948, three storeys high and of the elevator kind: there is no other like it in South Tyrol. And in the village stands a lime tree six hundred years old.
