Feast of San Bartolomeo
📅 Every year, on 24 August
On 24 August Capriana, a municipality of 605 inhabitants in the province of Trento, celebrates its patron San Bartolomeo.
Capriana lies geographically in the Val di Cembra, but by culture and by history it has always belonged to the Val di Fiemme, and it is still counted among the villages of that valley. Its coat of arms crosses two powers: the bishop's mitre and crozier above a sword pointing downwards, which stands for civil authority. In 1925 the municipalities of Rover Carbonare and Anterivo were merged into it, Anterivo being a German-speaking village that today lies in the province of Bolzano; it became a municipality of its own again in 1947.
Maria Domenica Lazzeri was born here, the mystic the village called la Meneghina: Pope Francis declared her venerable in 2023, and the mill that belonged to her family has become the museum that carries that nickname. In the woods of the municipality lies the Lago Nero, a glacial pool slowly turning into peat bog: it is a provincial nature reserve, and people go to see it for exactly that reason, because it is a lake that is finishing being a lake.
