Cavizzana

Province: Trento · Region: Trentino-South Tyrol · Population: 259 · Postal code: 38022

Outside the village there is a boulder with a date carved on it: 1632, the year the plague swept through the Val di Sole. Cavizzana was not touched, and that was owed to its out-of-the-way position and to the watch that was kept beside that stone. Ever since, the rock has been called the Sas dela Guardia, the guard stone.

The village is one of the smallest in the province of Trento by area, and for thirty years it did not exist as a municipality at all: abolished in 1928 and attached to Caldes, it became autonomous again only in 1957. In its arms is Saint Martin, for the church dedicated to him, the oldest building in the village.
