Feast of Saint George
📅 Every year, on 23 April
On 23 April Cis, a municipality of 309 inhabitants in Trentino, celebrates its patron Saint George, to whom the town's church is dedicated; the Castello di Mostizzolo stands in its territory.
Cis lies in the Val di Sole but belongs to the Val di Non: geography says one thing and administration another, and the village sits exactly on the joint between the two. Within its bounds is Mostizzolo, the obligatory crossing from one valley to the other, where the bridge spans the gorge in which the Noce runs before it widens into Lake Santa Giustina. The rest is a sloping plateau squeezed between two streams, the Noce to the south and the Barnés to the north-east.
The town's coat of arms is, quite literally, a map. It has two colours because the territory is divided into two land registers: red for that of Cis, the fields tilled around the houses, green for that of Bresimo, with the woods, the pastures and the mountain dairies. In the middle is a handshake, standing for concord between the two parts; along the bottom run the two streams; above, a battlemented tower recalls the castle of Mostizzolo, granted in 1261, passed to the Thun in 1447 and theirs until 1789.
