Caldes

Province: Trento · Region: Trentino-South Tyrol · Population: 1,090 · Postal code: 38022

The arms come from the seal of the Caldesio, lords of the castle, hanging from a document of 1371 that is still in the parish archive. In the village there is a Romanesque bell tower without its church: San Bartolomeo was pulled down and the tower stayed. In the castle chapel there are frescoes painted in 1629 by Elia Naurizio.

Wood is still worked here into furniture, and it is a trade of long standing. Above Bordiana and Bozzana the Austro-Hungarian trenches of the First World War remain. The Noce, which runs fast, has brought sport instead: in 1993 the downhill trials of the wildwater canoeing world championships were held on its water.
