Pieve di Bono-Prezzo

Province: Trento · Region: Trentino-South Tyrol · Population: 1,541 · Postal code: 38085

Pieve di Bono was one of the Sette Pievi delle Giudicarie, and the pievi served two purposes: to stand as one body before the prince-bishop of Trento, and to share out among themselves the use of the mountain pastures and the woods. The comune, on the other hand, has been made and unmade several times. In 1928 it was put together by joining nine suppressed comuni; in 1952 four of those territories were detached and became comuni of their own again; and on 31 December 2015 Pieve di Bono too ceased to exist, because on the first of January 2016 it merged with Prezzo to form Pieve di Bono-Prezzo. The seat is at Creto, which was the capoluogo before.

The arms granted in 1935 to Pieve di Bono carried a silver castle on a green plain: it is Castel Romano, the medieval castle that stands in the hamlet of Por. The new comune took its time over its own arms: the council adopted them at the end of 2017 and the province approved them in February 2018. As in every scattered comune of these valleys, the churches stand one to a village: Santa Giustina at Creto, Sant'Antonio Abate at Agrone, San Giacomo Maggiore at Prezzo. The other settlements are Cologna, Por and Strada, and the valley is that of the Chiese.
