The name comes from a castle, or perhaps from a hill fort, that stood guard over a prehistoric road towards the Val Camonica. That castle is there in the coat of arms, with two details worth reading: the gate is open, to say the unity of the community, and in the wall are four loopholes, one for each of the four quarters into which the village is divided.
In the First World War the valley of the Chiese found itself in the middle of the front, with the Austro-Hungarians to the north and the Italians to the south: the people were evacuated and the village destroyed. Castel Condino had become a municipality in 1920, was abolished in 1928 and re-established in 1946. And when a vote was held in 2014 to merge four municipalities of the valley, it was the only one where the no prevailed: the other three had to go back to the polls without it.
