The patron saint of Scandicci is Saint Zenobius, whose civic and religious feast is celebrated every 10 May, both in the town centre and in the hamlet of Casignano. Other Marian occasions are tied to further local traditions: the Madonna dei Fiori is celebrated at the parish church of San Giuliano a Settimo on the Sunday after Easter, while the Madonna di Scandicci Alto is celebrated in May in the hillside hamlet of the same name.
The municipal territory, known as Casellina e Torri until 1929, preserves some of the oldest churches in the Florence area, dating from the first millennium AD: among them, the parish church of San Giuliano a Settimo, the church of San Martino alla Palma, the abbey of Santi Salvatore e Lorenzo a Settimo and the church of Santa Maria a Greve. Between the 11th and 15th centuries other places of worship also arose on the hills overlooking the town, such as the parish church of Sant'Alessandro a Giogoli. Situated in the hilly area west of Florence, the settlement of Scandicci is today effectively conurbated with the Tuscan capital, sharing a boundary now without any clear urban break.
