The patron of Portoferraio is Saint Christinus, celebrated on 29 April.
His relics are kept in the church of San Cristino, which everyone in town calls the church of the Misericordia because it is the seat of that confraternity. It has a single nave, dominated by the marble altar with an 18th-century canvas of the Madonna della Misericordia; the statue of the Madonna and Child attributed to Tino da Camaino, which used to stand here, is now in the museum next door.
