Umbertide

In 1863, the settlement known as Fratta officially changed its name to Umbertide. Instead of relying on medieval charm alone, this Tiber valley municipality drives the regional economy through machine tool production, textiles, and industrial ceramics, alongside a long-standing tobacco farming tradition.

Home to roughly 16,500 residents, the urban layout is distinctly flat—a rarity in Umbria—sitting right at the confluence of the Tiber and Reggia rivers. Sections of medieval walls still trace the water's edge around the historic center. Beyond the industrial zones, especially around the southwestern district of Pierantonio, the landscape transitions seamlessly into organic farms and olive groves.
