Alberto Burri, among the twentieth century's giants, was born here in 1915 and left everything here: the Ex Seccatoi del Tabacco — monumental black tobacco-drying sheds — and Palazzo Albizzini hold the largest collection of his work, a pilgrimage for curators worldwide. The town, resting in the upper Tiber valley, keeps towers and palaces from its Renaissance seigneury.
In November the white truffle of the surrounding hills summons gourmets to the national fair. Piero della Francesca's Sansepolcro is fifteen minutes away: a kilometre of art per square kilometre.
