Feast of San Bartolomeo
📅 Every year, on 24 August
On 24 August Frassinelle Polesine, a municipality of 1,529 inhabitants in the province of Rovigo, celebrates its patron San Bartolomeo.
In November 1951 the Polesine went under water, and here the flood took away eighty-four people who had climbed onto a lorry: it is still called the lorry of death. A memorial chapel in the oratory of San Lorenzo, at Passo, and a monument by Virgilio Milani at località Chiesa remember them.
The Casa del Popolo was built by the townspeople between 1925 and 1930; then the fascist party took it as its seat, and after the regime it went back to being a theatre, a cinema and a dance hall. It was restored and reopened in 2011. The church of San Bartolomeo, ruined by the water, was rebuilt and consecrated in 1955.
