On the coat of arms of the comune there is a number: forty-three. That is how many people the fascists shot on 15 October 1944, in the middle of the village, during a round-up against the Resistance. Villamarzana is also the only comune of which Giacomo Matteotti was mayor: he held the office between 1912 and 1914.
Under the fields, at Michela, they have been digging since the nineteen seventies: it was thought there was a village here dependent on Frattesina, whereas this one too lay on the Amber Road, the trade route between northern Europe and the Mediterranean, when one of the branches of the Po ran through here. In 2014 the inhabitants said no, by referendum, to a single comune to be formed with five other villages of the Polesine.
