Zenson di Piave

Province: Treviso · Region: Veneto · Population: 1,783 · Postal code: 31050

After Caporetto the front stopped on the Piave, and here the disputed point was the bend: the Austrians occupied it in November 1917 and the Lecce, Pinerolo and Novara brigades forced them to withdraw on the last day of the year. In June 1918 they came back and took the village itself, which served to join the two bridgeheads of Fagarè and San Donà; on the twenty-third of June the Italians drove them out for good.

There are four different explanations of the name: a Latin personal name, a Venetic one, the Venetian family Zen, or Saint Zeno; the first attestation is of 1214. The arms, which the comune received in 2014, carry three letters, F Z B: the initials of Fagarè, Zenson and Sant'Andrea di Barbarana. Of villa Mora only the two barns by Andrea Tirali are left: the manor house that stood between them, damaged in the war, was pulled down.
