A document of 1330 says that on market day the abbess, in a red cloak, assisted by a chancellor and a notary, administered justice: she acted as judge. Marcon belonged to the Benedictine abbey of Mogliano, and stayed with it until Napoleon dissolved the religious bodies.
The name appears for the first time in 997, when Rozone, bishop of Treviso, gave Marconio to the abbey. A real centre never formed here: the river Zero flooded constantly, and people scattered into separate settlements. The watercourses run higher than the fields, and the drainage water is pulled away by a large pumping station. There are 16,215 residents.
