«Cerea» is still said in Piedmont as a greeting, and it is what is left of «your lordship». Some hold that the town is called this precisely for a salute to the lordship, that of the Scaligeri; others take it from the cerro, the turkey oak that is still the comune's emblem.
The oak is not a detail: at Cerea they make wooden furniture. A document of 932 records the decree of archdeacon Epirando allowing the inhabitants of Acereta seu Cerete to rebuild their houses. In the Oasi Valle Brusà is the Tombola pile-dwelling site, since 2011 a World Heritage site along with the others around the Alps. There are 16,251 residents.
