It was already known of at the end of the sixteenth century, but was judged a forgery; in the nineteen-thirties it was rediscovered, and again called false; only in 1992, after further finds in the area, was it taken seriously. It is part of an altar dedicated to the Manes, and the inscription commemorates a little girl, daughter of the imperial procurator Caius Vaternius Calpurnius Lucretianus, who almost certainly administered the Agno valley and had his country villa here.
On Monte Castello, at Chiuse, stood a bishop's castle that controlled the narrowest point of the valley: it appears in every imperial diploma, from that of Otto III in 1000 to that of Otto IV in 1200, and the bishops granted it in fief to the Trissino. Of the village's name, on the other hand, nothing certain is known: a lord called Gumberto, perhaps Hubert, is presumed. In 1666 villa Piovene was completed, later called Da Schio, designed by Antonio Pizzocaro, the same architect who at Villaverla left the Ghellini villa unfinished.
