They called it the Manchester of Italy: in Schio, Alessandro Rossi built the nineteenth century's largest Italian wool mill, and the Fabbrica Alta of 1862 — a five-storey brick cathedral — still dominates the town with its model workers' quarter, the Jacquard garden and the civic theatre. A heritage of industrial archaeology visited as castles are elsewhere.
