Feast of Saints Simon and Jude
📅 Every year, on 28 October
On 28 October Nogarole Vicentino celebrates its patrons Saints Simon and Jude; since 2014 the town has held the Festa del Formaggio, dedicated to the cheese products of Monte Faldo.
The name comes from walnut trees: from the Latin nux, nucaria, the place where walnuts grow, and indeed the municipal arms carry a walnut tree, the nogaro. The hills around look like ordinary hills, but they are the cones of extinct volcanoes: their lava flows covered the limestone bedrock of the Chiampo and Agno valleys, and they are the last spur of the Lessini mountains.
The village sits in a hollow closed in by three of those rises, the Castellaro, Monte Faldo and the Cavallaro. Small streams come down from the Faldo, often dry in summer: three of them meet at a spot called Tre Valli, the three valleys, and from there on they become the Restena torrent. Monte Faldo also gives its name to two of the local products with a municipal denomination, the potato and the cheeses, while the third is the honey of the Valchiampo; and a walk along the old paths, the Caminada dei sette capitei, is measured by counting the votive shrines left along the way.
