Calvera

Province: Potenza · Region: Basilicata · Population: 430 · Postal code: 85030

In 1875 a landslide carried away a good part of Calvera, including the mother church of San Gaetano. The village stayed where it was, halfway up Monte Mancino, with the Serrapotamo valley below and the peaks of the Pollino at the end of the view.

The first documents to name it are Angevin, from 1280; then it was a fief of the Sanseverino and the Donnaperna. Today Calvera is a stage on the Cammino del mischiglio, named after the mixture of wheat, broad bean and cereal flours the pasta is made with here, and it has a photography museum, the Anamnesis. There are 430 residents.
