Castronuovo di Sant'Andrea

Province: Potenza · Region: Basilicata · Population: 1,138 · Postal code: 85030

Castronuovo has six museums, and it is not a big town. The main one is the MIG, the International Museum of Graphic Art, inside the Palazzo Marchesale; beside it are three atelier-museums, each devoted to a technique and an artist: Guido Strazza for chalcography, Kengiro Azuma for lithography, Giulia Napoleone for engraving.

The other two are the International Museum of the Nativity Scene, named after the publisher Vanni Scheiwiller, and the one devoted to Sant'Andrea Avellino, who was born here: it is for him that in 1863 di Sant'Andrea was added to the town's name. The place name Castronuovo first appears in a parchment of 1059. There are 1,138 residents.
