649 days to go.

Lagonegro's patron is Saint Nicholas of Bari, on 6 December; but the town's calendar turns around the Madonna delle Nevi, who in summer climbs to the top of Monte Sirino.

The patron of Lagonegro is Saint Nicholas of Bari, celebrated on 6 December. His church is the co-cathedral that rises above the old town, over the castle: it dates from the 9th-10th century, the first great Christian building here, probably connected with the Basilian monks who had settled on the crag. Saint Nicholas, with his crozier and the book with three golden apples, also stands in the municipal coat of arms, beside the archangel Michael.

Then there is a feast that marks the year in three stages: that of the Madonna delle Nevi, with her sanctuary on the Sirino massif. On the third Sunday of June the statue is carried up the mountain on shoulders, stopping at Brusco; on 4 and 5 August the feast is held at the summit, by the chapel, and many townspeople camp there for days; on the third Sunday of September the statue comes back down and is placed in the chapel of the Seggio, to be carried the next day into the cathedral, where it spends the winter.
