Rivello

Province: Potenza · Region: Basilicata · Population: 2,843 · Postal code: 85040

Rivello was two towns for a long time. The upper part went with the church of the Latin rite, San Nicola di Bari, and its people were called bardàv'ti; the lower part with the Greek-rite parish of Santa Maria del Poggio, and those were the bardàsci. The street names still keep count: Fonte dei Lombardi on one side, Piazza dei Greci on the other.

In 1719 the town bought its freedom from the last feudal lord, Oronzo Pinelli: 55,000 ducats in instalments with interest and, on top of that, every year, four cantàri of salami, about three and a half quintals, 'of every quality, just as they are made in this land of Rivello'. There are 2,843 residents.
