Saint Antimus of Rome, patron of the land of the Piazzetta Nubifero
📅 Every year, on 11 May
Recale celebrates Saint Antimus of Rome on 11 May.
In the Capuan land register of 1523 Recale is photographed in a single line: forty-six hearths, 332 inhabitants. And the surnames are there, divided between families who came from Capua and local ones: Russo, Argentiano, Cutillo, de Letizia, Barbato, Morronese, Pellegrino. The name first appears as Ricari in a document of 1132, for the donation of three plots of land to a monastery.
In 1557 Prospero Suardo bought the fief of Acerra and Capodrise for 550 ducats; Capua tried to have it handed over at the same price and a lawsuit followed that lasted years, but the Suardo held firm and ended up coming to live here. Today Recale and Capodrise are a single built-up area, told apart only on the map.
