The porticoed corso of Cava de' Tirreni is unique in the South: merchants and pilgrims have walked beneath its medieval arcades for centuries, and the town earned the nickname "little Switzerland" for its order and trade. Above, the Benedictine abbey of the Holy Trinity, founded in 1011, guards a thousand years of manuscripts, cloisters and a Lombard cemetery.
