Zola Predosa

Province: Bologna · Region: Emilia-Romagna · Population: 18,193 · Postal code: 40069

In the mid-thirteenth century they opened the road of the brentatori, the men who carried wine to Bologna with the brenta on their backs: it came up from the Lavino and Samoggia valleys, and ever since this has been vine country. Today the route, more symbolic than identical to the original, is called the road of wines and flavours.

The name comes from Cellula Petrosa, two neighbouring settlements: Cellula became Zola, Petrosa — the old name of the Bazzanese road — became Predosa. In the town remain Palazzo Albergati, a Baroque country villa, and Palazzo Bentivoglio Pepoli, with its double loggia to the north and painted ceilings. There are 18,193 residents.
