Feast of the Madonna di Meduno
📅 Every year, on the last Sunday of September
On the last Sunday of September Meduno, a municipality of 1,674 inhabitants in the province of Pordenone, celebrates its patroness the Madonna di Meduno.
In the frazione of Navarons the Friulian risings of the Risorgimento began, in 1864, and there the museum of casa Andreuzzi tells the story. From Meduno came also Luigi Del Bianco, who in the United States became chief carver of Mount Rushmore: he died in New York in 1969.
The comune is scattered over a dozen borghi, each with its Friulian name and its own height: from the three hundred metres of Avon, Romaniz and Pitagora to the five hundred and fifty-five of Cilia. In 1976 the Friuli earthquake brought down half the village. The station, two kilometres out, has been useless since a landslide closed the line to Gemona in 2012.
