Sequals

Province: Pordenone · Region: Friuli Venezia Giulia · Population: 2,221 · Postal code: 33090

From Sequals came Primo Carnera, the boxer who in the twentieth century was heavyweight champion of the world: he was born here in 1906 and died in 1967. The house where he lived is now a museum. The village sits on morainic hills, between the Meduna and Cosa torrents.

Two mosaic artists also came from Sequals, Giandomenico Facchina and Ciro Mora; the village lies in the district of Spilimbergo. In the churches of the comune there is plenty to look at: a portal and a font by Giovanni Antonio Pilacorte, altarpieces by Gasparo Narvesa, and at Lestans the great fresco cycle of Pomponio Amalteo. At Lestans there is also a sixteenth-century Venetian villa, rare in these parts.
