Feast of Saint Martin
📅 Every year, on 11 November
On 11 November Resiutta celebrates its patron Saint Martin; the municipal territory lies within the Parco naturale regionale delle Prealpi Giulie.
The name of Resiutta has passed through four languages. In Roman times there was a customs post here; then the Slav settlement wiped out the Latin name and brought a new one, tied to the torrent called Běla, the white. From that came the German form Uelach, which is read in a document of 1136, and from 1240 the first Friulian form, Risciutta. In Resian the village is still called ta-na Bili, that is, on the Běla.
In 1822 Silvio Pellico stopped here while he was being taken to the Spielberg prison. Between 26 and 30 October 1917, during the breakthrough at Caporetto, there was fighting in the village and on Monte Calvario: the retreating Italian troops had organised a last defence here, and were outflanked from above. Diaries and testimonies then tell of a less known episode: before the end of the war, the retreating Austrians killed soldiers and civilians of Austrian citizenship but Czech and Slovak ethnicity, accused of treason.
