On 11 November Verzegnis celebrates its patron Saint Martin, to whom the ancient Pieve di San Martino is dedicated.
In the winter of 1878 a girl of the village, Margherita Vidusson, said she had the devil inside her. Before long the same happened to twenty-four other girls and to a carabiniere as well: they screamed, they cursed in languages nobody knew, they had a strength that was not their own. It ended when a doctor came from Udine, Giuseppe Chiappolino.
From October 1944 to April 1945 Villa di Verzegnis was the capital of the Cossacks whom the Germans had brought into Carnia against the partisans: more than fifteen hundred people, with horses, herds and even camels. At Villa today there is the Art Park, an open-air museum always open, with works by Sol LeWitt, Bruce Nauman, Richard Long and Dan Graham.
