The patron of Poggio Bustone is Saint John the Baptist, celebrated on 24 June. The passage of Saint Francis through the town is remembered by popular tradition in three feasts: on 4 October, with the passing of the «tamburello», which recalls the saint's greeting, wishing good morning to all the inhabitants; on Easter Monday, with the procession and the stop at the Franciscan hermitage; and on 2 August, with the celebrations of the feast of forgiveness.
Poggio Bustone is one of the main places of porchetta production, the local gastronomic speciality protected as a traditional agri-food product. On the first Sunday of October the Sagra della Porchetta is held, born in 1950: the Gazzetta Ufficiale of 1900 explicitly mentions the porchetta of Poggio Bustone displayed at the Paris Expo of that year.
