The patroness of Gradoli is Saint Mary Magdalene (santa Maria Maddalena), celebrated on 22 July; the municipality holds the Collegiata di Santa Maria Maddalena.
On Shrove Tuesday, alongside the colourful Carnival costumes, the «Incappucciati» (hooded ones) walk through the streets: members of the «Fratellanza del Purgatorio» dressed in brown with a long purple hood, who knock on doors and collect free offerings, to remind everyone that Carnival is ending and Lent is about to begin. Another tradition is that of the «Tentavecchie», who with their racket mean to wake the old Befana and remind her to bring gifts to the children.
