Bogliasco

Province: Genoa · Region: Liguria · Population: 4,486 · Postal code: 16031

The name is water that boils. The torrent used to be called rio dei bogli, from the Latin bulliens, boiling, for the little waterfalls that make the pools foam along its course; another idea derives it from the Genoese bœggi, holes, for those same pools.

The bridge that crosses the stream almost at its mouth is called Roman. At the Nasoni site, at 750 metres on the slopes of Monte Cordona, digs in the 1980s found chipped stones of the Middle Palaeolithic and the Mesolithic, and finds of imperial date: the crossing from the Val Fontanabuona to the Riviera was already in use. There are 4,486 residents.
