Busalla

Province: Genoa · Region: Liguria · Population: 5,741 · Postal code: 16012

At Busalla some say the name comes from «brucialla», burn it, for the number of times the town was sacked and set alight by passing armies. Historians lean towards the «busi», the hollows in the bed of the Scrivia, but popular memory has its reasons.

Between Ronco Scrivia and Busalla, from 1315, Guelphs and Ghibellines made a battlefield; the town was sacked in 1392 and again in 1418. The Spinola castle, wrecked in the sixteenth century, ended with its foundations reused for the marquis's palace. The first document that names Busalla is a notarial deed of 15 April 1192. There are 5,741 residents.
