Davagna

Province: Genoa · Region: Liguria · Population: 1,927 · Postal code: 16022

From Calvari the chestnut wood went down the Bisagno to Genoa, where it served to build ships: the documents naming these places begin in 916. And the old aqueduct that carried water to the city also crossed this territory.

The village was called Rosso until 1891, when it took the name Davagna and at the same time got the roads that reach all its hamlets. Above it lies the Scoffera pass, at 674 metres: an old route between the coast and the Po valley, today a stage of the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri. The population is 1,927.

Saint Peter, patron, and the silver cross ransomed from Napoleon's army

📅 Every year, on 29 June

Davagna celebrates Saint Peter on 29 June, in the parish church of San Pietro Apostolo in the main town; in the hamlet of Marsiglia, the church of San Giovanni Battista, mentioned as early as 1213, preserves a silver cross ransomed by the people during the Napoleonic invasion of 1798.
