Lumarzo

Province: Genoa · Region: Liguria · Population: 1,594 · Postal code: 16024

The name is said to come from Locus Martius, the field of Mars: it has been thought that a temple to the god of war stood here. On the watershed between the Urri and the Lavagna stands the isolated little church of San Martino del Vento, whose bell tower seems to have begun as a watchtower; in June 2000 an arson fire burned its roof and its furnishings, and it has since been restored.

At Pannesi, instead, is the sanctuary of Nostra Signora del Bosco: it was built, tradition says, after the Virgin appeared on 12 September 1555 to a peasant, Felice Olcese. The municipality is a scattered one and the town hall is at Ferriere. The population is 1,594.

Saint Camillus de Lellis, patron on the Monday after the feast of the Bosco sanctuary

📅 Every year, on the first Monday after the Feast of the Madonna del Bosco (the first Sunday after 8 September)

Lumarzo celebrates Saint Camillus de Lellis on the first Monday after the Feast of the Madonna del Bosco, which falls on the first Sunday after 8 September; the Marian feast takes its name from the sanctuary of Nostra Signora del Bosco, in the hamlet of Pannesi, linked to an apparition in 1555.
