The patroness of Lavagna is Our Lady of Mount Carmel, celebrated on the second Saturday of July in the sanctuary that bears her name, built by the discalced Carmelites between 1617 and 1631.
After the suppression of the order ordered by Napoleon, the church was reopened for worship in 1806 and thoroughly restored in 1835. The attached convent, today owned by the municipality, houses the Giovanni Serbandini Bini civic library. Inside, near the marble altar, is kept an altarpiece by the painter Bartolomeo Biscaino depicting the Madonna del Carmine with the Child, Saint Erasmus the bishop and Saint Leonard of Limoges.
