Mezzanego

Province: Genoa · Region: Liguria · Population: 1,624 · Postal code: 16046

In the mid sixteenth century a bandit ruled these parts, Vincenzo Zenoglio known as il Crovo. He attacked Chiavari and the local lords, and once he even attacked the grand duke of Tuscany Cosimo I de' Medici, who was travelling towards Genoa: they laid an ambush for him, arrested him and in 1543 sentenced him to death. He lived at the Castello Rocca, at Borgonovo.

On 22 January 2009, by contrast, a baby girl was born at Cafferata. It made the news because in that hilltop hamlet no one had been born since 27 December 1941: sixty-seven years and twenty-six days. The municipality is a scattered one, the town hall is at Prati, and part of the territory lies inside the Aveto park. The population is 1,624.
