Rezzoaglio

Province: Genoa · Region: Liguria · Population: 1,080 · Postal code: 16048

The people here call it Rusagni, and the name is said to come from the Latin rus agni, the village of the lambs: for centuries the Val d'Aveto lived by its flocks. The territory is the largest in the metropolitan city of Genoa after Genoa itself.

As a municipality, though, Rezzoaglio had to fight to exist: abolished in 1815 and merged into Santo Stefano d'Aveto, it kept only its registry office until 1876, and the restoration voted in 1918 became effective only three years later. Its coat of arms puts together the arms of the Fieschi, the Doria and the Malaspina. The population is 1,080.
