Rondanina

Province: Genoa · Region: Liguria · Population: 69 · Postal code: 16025

With 69 residents Rondanina is the least populated comune in Liguria, and one road gets you there: a spur that climbs off the Brugneto provincial road and stops here.

The village sits at 1000 metres below the Bric Rondanina, 1340 metres of limestone in horizontal layers. The old presbytery of the church of San Nicola holds the wolf museum of the Antola park and a museum of local flora and fauna; the mountain refuge is upstairs.

Fun facts about Rondanina

The patron is Saint Nicholas: the parish church of the village is dedicated to San Nicola di Bari and was rebuilt in the thirteenth century and again in the eighteenth. Municipal sources do not record the date of the feast.

Today a single road reaches it, but Rondanina was for a long time a trading crossroads between the upper Trebbia valley, the Scrivia valley, the Aveto valley, the Borbera valley and the Po plain. The museum of the flora and fauna of the Antola park was opened together with the mountain refuge on 5 May 2001, in the rooms of the former presbytery; the chapel of Sant'Anna, at the fork on the provincial road, dates from the last decade of the sixteenth century.

Saint Bartholomew, patron of a town that hosts the Wolf Museum

📅 Every year, on 24 August

Rondanina celebrates Saint Bartholomew on 24 August; in the former rectory of the parish church of San Nicola di Bari, rebuilt in the 13th and again in the 18th century, the Antola Park's Wolf Museum is now housed.
