Fascia

Province: Genoa · Region: Liguria · Population: 100 · Postal code: 16020

Until 1964 no proper road reached Fascia. The aqueduct the village had already paid for itself in 1929, with money from the residents and from those who had emigrated to the Americas; electric light arrived in 1942.

At 1118 metres it is the highest comune in Liguria, 100 residents with the town hall at Carpeneto, on the slope of Monte Carmo inside the Antola park. In summer Genoese holidaymakers fill it up. The Bisagno and Scrivia partisan brigades were born here.

Fun facts about Fascia

The patron is Saint William and the feast falls on 10 August. The village appears for the first time in a document of 12 February 1235: the will of one Beldì, wife of Beltramo of Torriglia.

In July 1835 a cholera epidemic killed twenty-four inhabitants, in a community that has never had many. Along the old pass of Casa del Romano the ruins of a temple or chapel have been found, suggesting the place was already frequented in Roman times.
