Diano Arentino

Province: Imperia · Region: Liguria · Population: 678 · Postal code: 18013

The Romans consecrated the woods of this valley to Diana, and probably raised her a temple near the village: from there comes the name of all the Diano. In 1172 the villages of the valley joined together in the Communitas Diani, with laws of their own.

The twentieth century was harder: during the fascist reprisals the village was set on fire and almost destroyed, and it was rebuilt after the war. At Evigno, in the church of San Bernardo, a polyptych of 1552 is kept, and two Gregorian chant books printed in the Veneto in 1526. The population is 678.
